Cathy Rankin Takes Lead Role in Marco Santiago’s ‘Diablita’ from Volarefilms LLC

April 20, 2005 – Directed and executive produced by award winning filmmaker Marco Santiago (El Trafico, Once Upon a Time in the Desert, Into the Border), and with an anticipated production start date of May 21, “Diablita” will be shot as a 35mm short film project.

“Cathy Rankin brings the right combination of wit and sex appeal to the project.” says Marco. A highly accomplished actor and print model, Cathy has made numerous appearances on television, including ABC’s Monday Night Football pre-game promo with Leslie Neilson, a segment on America’s Most Wanted, numerous infomercials, commercials and more. She recently completed leading roles in two feature length films, the Selena Incident and Pieces of A Dream. Both projects are in post-production. Cathy is also a regular hosts on shows such as ABC’s Destination TV in Phoenix, and iSPORTSTV, which is broadcast worldwide over the Internet. “I can’t wait to work on Marco’s project.” Cathy says. “Not only because I admire and relate to his scripts, but also because of the high production quality that is evident in his work. Volarefilms is gaining excellent industry exposure, and this project is the perfect vehicle to showcase my acting ability in a character that is not only fun and interesting, but also has depth and complexity.” She continues.

“Diablita”, Spanish for She Devil, is a satiric and surrealistic lampooning of the Hollywood development process. The story centers around a screenwriter that meets with two studio executives, who then proceed to turn the screenwriter’s story into a Hollywood style T&A laden running gun battle between two hot and sexy females in order to conform to a commercial marketing strategy. “The story is filled with black humor and irony.” Says Marco. “The interesting thing about the story is that it lampoons itself. It is a Hollywood style production, complete with hyper-kinetic chase sequences, gun battles, hot woman, and fast talking executives. It lampoons itself by being over the top and absurd. The operative word here is hyper-reality.” Marco Continues. Cathy Rankin will join Amy Weber, who plays the title role of Diablita.
