InfantSEE Program Introduces Parents and Child to a Lifetime of Vision Care

June 15, 2005 -- Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons Offers a New Vision Assessment Service for Infants.

Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons, a leading center for comprehensive eye care and surgery, announces a new vision assessment service called InfantSEE.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Elizabeth Muckley providing this service to parents with infants,” said Dr. Lohman, founder and Medical Director of Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons. “It is important to check a child at a young age for any vision problems before it is too late.”

The InfantSEE program, developed by the American Optometric Association in partnership with Johnson and Johnson, educates parents on visual development and screens for amblyopia or other sight threatening problems before they permanently affect vision. The program also introduces the parents and child to the importance of a lifetime of vision care.

Over 5,800 optometrists throughout the United States have volunteered to provide this one time no charge vision assessment for infants between the ages of 6 month and 12 month even if they have no insurance.

“I really enjoy working with children, having a 7 month old myself” said Dr. Elizabeth Muckley, Optometrist. “To have this opportunity to educate parents on the importance of eye care for their children is truly wonderful.”

Former President Jimmy Carter and Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter are honorary spokespersons for the InfantSee program. InfantSee has the potential to change the nation’s concept of early childhood wellness care to include a professional eye and vision assessment as a necessary step in assuring an infant’s overall health and wellness.
