LVMH billionaire CEO Bernard Arnault dismisses reports of family rift

Bernard Arnault, chairman of the French luxury group LVMH, has strongly refuted media claims of an impending succession dispute among his five children, emphasizing the unity within his family. The billionaire, who has led the luxury conglomerate for nearly 40 years, addressed these rumors in a recent post on X, responding specifically to assertions made by French daily Le Monde.

Arnault described the portrayal of his family as embroiled in rivalry as exaggerated fiction. “With the Arnaults, apparently, there is no discussion, only plotting; no deliberation, only rivalry,” he remarked, highlighting the active roles his children play in running LVMH’s various brands. He noted that contrary to media narratives, his family maintains close relationships, even calling each other on Sundays to discuss business matters.

Despite the ongoing speculation regarding his succession, Arnault has not indicated any immediate plans to step down and did not name a successor during a recent annual meeting. Last year, LVMH adjusted its policies to permit leadership roles up to the age of 85, further extending his tenure possibilities. When asked about succession, Arnault suggested revisiting the question in seven or eight years.

In light of these developments, Arnault expressed a desire that his remarks would quell ongoing speculation about family tensions, stating that those eager for a "family rift" would be disappointed.
