Several companies have made significant moves in after-hours trading following the release of quarterly earnings.

Nvidia’s stock increased by 4% after the company posted a second-quarter revenue of $96.22 billion and earnings of $2.22 per share, exceeding analyst estimates of $92.17 billion and $2.10, respectively. Nvidia anticipates further revenue growth, projecting $108 billion for the third quarter.

Salesforce also saw a substantial rise, with its shares climbing 12% after reporting second-quarter revenue of $11.35 billion, slightly above the consensus estimate of $11.32 billion. The company’s earnings doubled year-over-year to $5.90 per share, bolstered by an investment gain, and could contribute 160 points to the Dow Jones Industrial Average if the current gains are maintained.

Okta’s shares surged by 19% following its better-than-expected second-quarter results, which included adjusted earnings of $1.05 per share on $805 million in revenue, surpassing analyst projections of $0.97 and $795 million, respectively. The company has also raised its full-year earnings and revenue guidance.

Agilent Technologies reported a revenue of $1.88 billion for its third quarter, exceeding expectations of $1.84 billion, leading to a 4% increase in its stock. CrowdStrike Holdings experienced a 10% rise in shares after beating consensus expectations on revenue and earnings per share, while Veeva Systems shares climbed 8% after strong second-quarter results and increased guidance.

Conversely, Urban Outfitters’ stock fell by 3% despite meeting consensus estimates, and Synopsys saw a 2% decline despite raising its annual revenue and profit forecasts.

  • Investors use after-hours trading data to gauge company performance and market sentiment.

Key takeaway:

  • Companies exceeding earnings expectations can see significant gains, while those meeting but not exceeding estimates may struggle.

Opposing viewpoint:

  • Market reactions can be overly influenced by short-term results, potentially overlooking long-term fundamentals.
