$230 Billion AI Sales Guidance Fuels Growth Outlook

Broadcom’s latest financial performance showcased significant growth, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors. The company reported a 86% year-over-year increase in sales, reaching $29.6 billion, which slightly surpassed analyst expectations. Earnings per share also rose impressively by 96%, achieving $3.32.

However, the positive news was somewhat tempered by future guidance, which projected next quarter’s sales at $34.8 billion, falling short of the anticipated $35 billion. Despite this, Broadcom exceeded its own AI semiconductor sales guidance, posting $16.7 billion, a remarkable 221% increase year-over-year, and forecasted an even larger $21.7 billion for the upcoming quarter.

During a subsequent earnings call, CEO Hock Tan provided insights into the company’s future prospects in AI semiconductor sales. Broadcom expects to secure $115 billion in annual AI semiconductor revenue by fiscal year 2027, indicating continued strong demand despite current supply constraints, particularly regarding high-bandwidth memory. The firm anticipates a doubling of AI sales by fiscal year 2028, reaching $230 billion, significantly eclipsing total revenues from previous years.

Broadcom also addressed customer relationships, announcing that Anthropic and OpenAI are projected to become its largest and second-largest XPU customers, respectively, potentially reducing reliance on Alphabet, which has historically been its top client. The evolving dynamics within its customer base, coupled with the high demand for AI products, paint a robust outlook for Broadcom moving forward.

Why this story matters: Insights into Broadcom’s growth in AI semiconductors reflect broader trends in technology and investment opportunities.

Key takeaway: Supply constraints may limit Broadcom’s guidance, but long-term projections suggest considerable growth in AI-based revenue.

Opposing viewpoint: Some analysts express concern that Broadcom’s reliance on AI clients like Alphabet may put its market position at risk if it loses share.
