JetBlue (JBLU) 3Q 2026 earnings

JetBlue Airways announced a larger net loss for the third quarter of 2023 compared to the previous year. Despite this setback, the New York-based airline indicated that robust travel demand is helping to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices as it aims to reassure investors following a recent decline in its stock price. JetBlue’s shares increased approximately 11% in after-hours trading on Monday.

The airline reported a net loss of $257 million for the quarter ending September 30, up from a loss of $143 million in the same period last year. JetBlue’s fuel expenses surged by 61%, amounting to $868 million. CEO Joanna Geraghty highlighted that resilient demand and strong revenue helped the company recapture some of the increased fuel costs, exceeding initial forecasts. The airline experienced a 19% rise in average fares, which reached $245.11 during the third quarter.

As JetBlue prepares for an earnings call scheduled for Tuesday, executives will address analysts’ inquiries concerning the airline’s long-term stability amidst ongoing losses. A report indicates that a group of senior creditors is collaborating with restructuring advisor PJT Partners.

As of September 30, JetBlue had $2.2 billion in liquidity and total debt of $8.4 billion. CFO Ursula Hurley expressed confidence in the airline’s financial strategy, outlining plans to achieve earnings per share of $1 and positive cash flow by 2028. JetBlue is also navigating competitive challenges from larger airlines and is currently pursuing a multi-year turnaround strategy to enhance revenue, including investment in premium seating options.
