Department store chain Macy’s has announced plans to close 14 locations across the United States, including two in California. This decision follows the chain’s earlier moves in 2025 to shut down 66 stores, one of which was located in Los Angeles.
In 2024, under newly appointed CEO Tony Spring, Macy’s outlined a strategy to close a total of 150 underperforming stores by the end of 2026. Currently, the store closures set to take place include locations in La Mesa and Tracy, California, as well as others in states such as Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington.
While specific dates for the store closures have not yet been confirmed, the company indicated that announcements regarding locations will be made on a rolling basis as they continue to assess performance metrics across various markets. This strategic decision aims to reduce operational costs and concentrate resources on higher-performing stores, luxury brands, and enhancing their digital shopping experience.
