New Jeep Cherokee set to lead Stellantis’ U.S. sales turnaround

Stellantis is reintroducing the Jeep Cherokee to bolster its U.S. sales after a three-year absence from the market. The compact SUV is expected to play a crucial role in the automaker’s strategy to regain lost market share and aims to enhance the brand’s product lineup amidst challenging financial conditions. This new Cherokee is distinguished as Jeep’s first traditional hybrid and its most fuel-efficient gas-powered model, achieving an impressive 37 miles per gallon combined.

Richard Cox, Jeep’s senior vice president of brand operations, highlighted the importance of the Cherokee in increasing both fuel efficiency and sales volume. The vehicle is currently being delivered to dealerships and is regarded as the most significant launch for Jeep this year, as the company aims to raise its retail sales by approximately 25% to 1.15 million vehicles by 2026.

Despite a slight sales increase of less than 1% last year, Jeep has struggled to recover from a declining trend, with annual sales dropping substantially since 2018. The automaker is focusing on turning around its fortunes under new leadership by implementing pricing and product adjustments.

The Cherokee is manufactured at a plant in Toluca, Mexico, with plans for expanding U.S. production capabilities in the near future. Starting prices for the Cherokee range from around $37,000 to $46,000, with the $39,995 Laredo model projected to be the most popular option.

Stellantis aims to leverage the Cherokee to attract new customers and reclaim those who have switched to competitors like Toyota and Honda. As Jeep seeks to redefine its offerings, it views the Cherokee as a strategic priority, emphasizing the need for quality and reliability before introducing other models.
