Suzanna’s Kitchen chicken recalled in 7 states over listeria fears

Nearly seven tons of ready-to-eat grilled chicken breast fillets are being recalled due to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes during third-party laboratory testing. The Georgia-based food company Suzanna’s Kitchen is recalling approximately 13,720 pounds of the fully cooked product, which was distributed to food service operations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Ohio, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The recall specifically affects ten-pound cases produced on October 14, 2025, which include two 5-pound bags of fully cooked grilled chicken breast fillets with rib meat, identified by Lot Code 60104 P1382 287 5 J14 and Establishment Number P-1382. While the recall primarily impacts food service operators in the states mentioned, officials advise these operators to check their inventories and remove any matching products.

No illnesses have been reported related to the recall. However, anyone who may have consumed the chicken and is concerned about potential health risks is encouraged to contact a healthcare provider. Listeria monocytogenes poses particular risks to pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Symptoms of Listeria infection can vary and may develop from three to 70 days after ingestion.

Approximately 1,250 individuals in the United States become ill from Listeria each year, with the majority of cases occurring in older adults, who are at higher risk for severe health consequences.

Why this story matters: The recall highlights ongoing food safety issues and risks associated with Listeria contamination.

Key takeaway: The affected products are primarily for food service operations, and vigilance is essential to prevent potential health risks.

Opposing viewpoint: Some may argue that food recalls are a necessary part of ensuring consumer safety, while others may feel that they can lead to unnecessary panic.
