Jeff Bezos group buys stake in Liverpool FC

A consortium led by Jeff Bezos has reached an agreement with Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to acquire a minority stake in Liverpool Football Club, as announced on Friday. This investment marks Bezos’s entry into sports ownership, with the consortium purchasing approximately one-third of the Premier League team for around $7.1 billion, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

The deal includes an option for the consortium to obtain majority ownership within the next year at a valuation of about $8 billion. The largest share of the $7.1 billion investment—exceeding $1 billion—comes from K5 Global, a company in which Bezos is the lead investor. The investment group, known as 1892 Holdings, is managed by Amit Bhatia, a businessman and former co-owner of the Queens Park Rangers soccer club. Partners in the group also include K5 Sports and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin.

Under the terms of the agreement, Bhatia will assume the role of vice chairman of Liverpool and will join the club’s board. While Bezos will not have a seat on the board, representatives from K5 Sports and the Saverin family office will. The new minority owners aim to support Liverpool FC’s long-term aspirations by leveraging their expertise in global business and technology.

FSG President Mike Gordon highlighted that the partnership aligns with the club’s long-standing commitment to long-term planning and investment. Recognized as the fourth-most valuable football club globally, Liverpool FC boasts a history of success, including 20 league titles, with the most recent championship secured in 2025.
