Soho’s beloved Lure Fishbar saved after new sublease deal with Prada

Lure Fishbar, a well-known seafood restaurant in Soho celebrated for its celebrity clientele and neighborhood charm, has secured its future following a deal with Prada. This arrangement comes as Prada expands its presence in the building located at 575 Broadway, where Lure has resided for nearly 25 years.

Prada initially sought to acquire Lure’s underground space for its own café, Pasticceria Marchesi. However, John McDonald, the owner of Lure, announced that the restaurant will continue to operate under a long-term sublease arrangement with Prada. McDonald emphasized that there are no plans for a Prada café, thus ensuring Lure’s ongoing presence in the iconic NYC dining scene.

With a space of 5,000 square feet, Lure occupies a smaller area compared to Prada’s 20,000 square feet in the building. The arrangement was finalized with the endorsement of the building’s owner, billionaire art collector Peter Brant.

Supporters of Lure, including numerous celebrities like Chris Rock and Heidi Klum, have expressed their fondness for the restaurant, characterizing it as a cultural landmark essential to the fabric of Soho. Klum noted, “Lure is Soho; it has lasted the test of time and is truly the epicenter for fashion, art and entertainment."

Despite the challenges posed by Prada’s expansion, Lure’s brand and its significance to New York’s dining culture have been reaffirmed with this new agreement.
