YES Network, MSG Networks to exit Gotham app for DAZN streaming

Mitchell Robinson of the New York Knicks showcased his athleticism during a recent playoff game, but off the court, the YES Network and MSG Networks are preparing to transition their streaming services to DAZN. This shift involves moving away from the Gotham Sports app, which was launched two years ago, to leverage DAZN’s platform for the streaming of local games involving popular teams such as the New York Yankees and the New York Knicks.

Fans of the Yankees will continue to access the Gotham app for the remainder of the season, while the full transition will take place during the 2026-2027 NBA and NHL seasons. Both networks also cover additional teams, including the Brooklyn Nets and the NHL’s New York Rangers, among others. Customers who currently receive the channels through traditional pay TV will have the ability to stream games on DAZN without additional cost, although specific pricing details have yet to be announced.

This decision comes amid significant challenges for regional sports networks, including financial struggles faced by some, such as Main Street Sports, which has recently shut down. Although YES and MSG are not directly impacted by that turmoil, they have felt the effects of a trend toward cord-cutting and streaming services. DAZN has positioned itself as a strong contender to fill the void left by struggling networks and has previously secured streaming rights for other sports events, including the FIFA Club World Cup.

Fans of YES and MSG have already experienced a few changes, including previous app launches and a temporary blackout affecting MSG’s partners. The new venture with DAZN signifies a continuing evolution in how sports broadcasts are consumed in the current media landscape.

Why this story matters:

  • Major shift in local sports broadcasting may redefine viewer access.

Key takeaway:

  • YES and MSG Networks are moving to DAZN, illustrating the changing dynamics of regional sports broadcasting.
