A visitor from Atlanta achieved a remarkable feat at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino on Tuesday by turning a $5 slot machine bet into a staggering jackpot of $10,292,912.32. This win marks one of the most substantial slot payouts recorded at the property.
The unidentified Georgia resident was playing the IGT Megabucks Wolf Run Eclipse machine for approximately three minutes before the jackpot was triggered. While the winner chose to remain anonymous and did not take photos, they celebrated the win with fellow guests and casino staff.
Cami Christensen, president and general manager of Westgate Las Vegas, expressed excitement over the win, stating, "Las Vegas is built on unforgettable moments, and it doesn’t get much more memorable than turning a $5 bet into more than $10 million."
The Megabucks progressive jackpot system, managed by International Game Technology (IGT), connects machines across numerous Nevada casinos through a wide-area network. Each bet contributes a small percentage to the cumulative jackpot, which continues to grow until a player wins. Upon a jackpot being claimed, the system resets the progressive meter to $10 million across all linked machines.
While this jackpot is impressive, it does not approach the record for the largest Megabucks win, which stands at $39.7 million and was won in March 2003. The previous record at the Westgate was $10.7 million in 2015.
Winners of Megabucks jackpots, funded by IGT, can opt for either a lump-sum cash payment or a 25-year annuity, but should consider federal tax implications when making their decision.
The Westgate, located just off the iconic Las Vegas Strip, has been operational for 57 years and is home to the SuperBook, which is recognized as the largest race and sportsbook in Las Vegas.
